About Me
I’m a former scientist-turned-science writer with newspaper, radio and multimedia experience, and I’m currently at Chemical & Engineering News, where I cover pharma and biotech, as well as biological sciences and translational medicine. I am skilled in social media management, with experience producing video and podcasts.
My most recent work can be found here. I’m on twitter at @meghas.
I am an alumna of the Poynter Women’s Leadership Academy and part of the Digital Women Leaders mentorship program. I am a former Knight Wallace Fellow. During 2013-2014, I studied the debate over GMOs, and worked on my photography, video and radio skills. As part of the fellowship, I spent six months at Michigan Radio, the local NPR affiliate for parts of southeast, southwest and northern Michigan. I also have held health reporting fellowships through the Kaiser Family Foundation and the California Endowment.
I’m a graduate of the UC Santa Cruz Science Communication Program and hold a Ph.D. in molecular biology from UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
As a journalist, I have also worked for STAT, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Detroit Free Press, the Santa Cruz Sentinel, the Sun Herald in South Mississippi and the Charlotte Observer.
